Kip Keino Reports to Police Ahead of Friday Court AppearancePublished by
Kip Keino Turned Himself In and Will Appear in Court Friday Over Kenyan Rio Olympic Team ScandalBy Adam Kopet Kipchoge "Kip" Keino turned himself into Kenyan police Thursday, as he had been ordered by a Kenyan court Monday, according to Maureen Kakah of the Nairobi News. As had been previously reported, the two-time Olympic champion had been charged in absentia with regards to the mismanagement of funds for the Kenyan Olympic team in 2016. Keino was the head of the Kenyan Olympic Committee during the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. Keino was one of four men allegedly involved in the scandal to turn themselves in the early hours of Thursday after returning to Kenya from abroad. Kenya's ambassador to Austria, Hassan Wario, who also serves as the Minister of Sport in Kenya, was another of the four men to turn themselves in. The other two men were Haron Chebet Komen and Patrick Kimithi Nkabu. They are both former employees of the Kenyan Sports Ministry. Had the four men not presented themselves to Kenyan police by 6 a.m. Thursday morning, the court would have issued warrants for their arrests. All four men are scheduled to appear in court Friday morning. More news |
